FAQ
  • Seoul WYD is separate from the DID. If you wish to participate in the Seoul days, WYD, please refer to the LOC website.
  • Once the POC is formed, time will be set aside at the parish level to recruit and train diocesan conference volunteers, parish volunteers, and Homestay families. We need many volunteers, and this opportunity is open to everyone, so please wait a little longer until further notice is released.
  • The DID is conducted exclusively through group applications from overseas pilgrims (dioceses); applications from Korean are not accepted. Koreans serve as hosts to welcome the overseas pilgrims. Accordingly, the Diocese of Uijeongbu will begin direct communication with overseas dioceses through a registration process starting on June 1st. Through this communication process, mutual preferences will be confirmed to ultimately reject or finalize applications. Once the number of confirmed participants reaches the pre-surveyed capacity within the Diocese of Uijeongbu, the application page will be closed. However, if cancellations occur, applications will be temporarily reopened, prioritizing those who expressed a desire for a waiting list position during the communication process. It is predicted that this process will continue throughout 2026. We intend to conclude registration by the end of October if possible to minimize variables in the preparation process.
  • 1) How do I apply for a Homestay? : Homestay volunteers are part of the POC volunteers, so you can apply when the parish is recruiting Homestay volunteers. 2) Is it okay if I don't speak any foreign language? : That is fine. A welcoming heart is all you need. We will provide assistive tools, such as picture communication cards (AAC). 3) Is it okay if there is no bed or bathroom in the room? : Of course. You just need a usable bathroom and a space to sleep. However, since at least two pilgrims of the same gender are assigned to each family (accommodation), please ensure there is sleeping space for at least two people. 4) How should I handle breakfast? : Pilgrims wish to experience the culture and lifestyle of a typical Korean family, so please prepare as you normally would. You may serve Korean food, or you may provide bread or milk. "Family-like comfort," rather than "generous hospitality," aligns with the spirit of WYD. (We also provide guidance on meal plans you can prepare based on this.) 5) I have to go to work; what should I do? : In fact, in previous conferences, we minimized the burden on both parties by having pilgrims leave their homes before the Homestay volunteers went to work and agreeing on an evening return time in advance. 6) I am an elderly grandmother; is it possible for me to participate as well? : Of course. Homestay volunteering is a stage where our elders particularly shine. In previous conferences, many young people confessed that they were "moved by the warmth of the foreign grandmothers with whom they could not even communicate." Young people will find great comfort in the warm and compassionate hospitality of these elders. 7) Do I have to act as a guide for the pilgrims as well? : No. The role of a Homestay volunteer is limited to providing accommodation and breakfast. However, if you have the capacity to act as a guide as well, please speak with the POC and the pilgrim. 8) Is there a curfew for pilgrims? : According to the guidelines, pilgrims must stay in their accommodation from midnight until morning. 9) I want to hang out with a pilgrim : That is fine. It is also possible to spend more intimate time with the pilgrim by coordinating the schedule and time. You can coordinate directly with the pilgrim.
  • No. The DID only accepts group applications from overseas pilgrims. We welcome the pilgrims as hosts.
